The definition of an ornament is something intended to make something else more interesting. This is especially true of ornamental pattern design. When applied to a wall, floor or object an ornament holds the sole purpose of making a space more beautiful. Damask is the most traditional and recognizable aspect of this category but is only a feature of it.
